Suo Group Discovers CRISPR Mechanism to Help Prevent Errors

Congratulations to Dr. Zucai Suo and students, Austin Raper and Anthony Stephenson on two of their papers being published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS)! In their first paper, they reported that they've figured out a mechanism by which the CRISPR gene-editing enzyme Cas9 determines where and when to cut DNA strands (which could help prevent gene-cutting errors). Their second paper discusses the notion that Cas9 actually trims one side of the DNA ladder shorter and the other.

Their team will continue to explore ways of preventing this behavior in the future. Read more here

Best of luck, Suo Group!
