The 2000 National Doctoral Program Survey is an on-line survey by graduate students, but the results are rather suspect because of low participation. Only 12 respondents for the OSU Chemistry Department results.
Ph.D.'s.org is a resource for science, math, and engineering career resources. Many links to articles on the subject of exploitation of Ph.D. and postdoctoral students, plus some general guides to graduate education.
The Ph.D. careers project is an investigation of the careers of recent Ph.D. physical science graduates. A preprint of the article, The Training, Careers, and Work of Ph.D. Physical Scientists: Not Simply Academic is available for download. The article appeared in American Journal of Physics 70(11):1081 (November, 2002)
