The 29th Reaction Mechanisms Conference will be held Friday, June 28 through Tuesday,
July 2, 2002 on the campuses of The Ohio State University and Chemical Abstracts Service in Columbus, Ohio. This distinguished conference has held a position of long-standing significance in mechanistic chemistry since its founding 55 years ago. This year's conference promises to provide both a stimulating scientific program and a delightful conference venue.

The conference presentations and poster sessions will be held in McPherson Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry at The Ohio State University and on the campus of the Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society.

Registration fees for the conference will be modest ($50/person for student and post-doctoral researchers, and $100/person for all others). This registration fee includes 3 lunches, dinner at the conference banquet, and bus transportation limited to peak hours between select housing and the airport.

Affordable accommodation packages are available for participants in the conference including air-conditioned residence hall accommodations, along with an optional meal plan, as well as choices of local hotels. All conference attendees will have opportunities for participation in the discussion periods, poster sessions as well as informal conversations with attendees. Students and post-doctoral researchers are particularly encouraged to submit poster presentations describing their current research efforts.

Conference activities will take place in the newly renovated McPherson Laboratory of Chemistry at The Ohio State University as well as Chemical Abstracts Service in Columbus, Ohio. Campus information about all OSU buildings can be found at:

These facilities are a short walking distance to the renowned (OSU) Wexner Center for the Arts as well as bookstores, ethnic restaurants, coffeehouses, bars and other activities. Buses to downtown Columbus leave regularly from within one block of the Chemistry Department.

Columbus is one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in the nation, and also the capital of Ohio. The Columbus Museum of Art and the recently built Center of Science and Industry are available for tours. Columbus has many opportunities to offer, and without many of the complications of a larger urban city. Ample information about Columbus can be found at:

In addition, the metropolitan areas of Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Dayton are within 2 hours drive. Recreational parks, including many Metro Parks and Hocking Hills State Park, are within an hour's drive.

Special elements of the conference program include the planned Bartlett session entitled:

"Discussion on Transition State Theory and Alternative Models"

as well as the Conference Banquet which will take place on the campus of Chemical Abstract Service. Attendees will also be able to tour the Chemical Abstracts Service, which holds the world's largest databases, as well as the journal production facilities for the American Chemical Society. Attendees will also get a glimpse of the new features in upcoming releases of the SciFinder software suite.

We look forward to seeing you in Columbus this summer!
