Three Chemistry Department faculty have been recognized for their teaching excellence
in Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2000. Those recognized are Bruce Bursten
, Robert S. Coleman, and Gideon
A. Fraenkel.
The NSF Division of Chemistry provided $5.8M
to establish an Environmental Molecular Sciences Institute
(EMSI)
at Ohio State. The Ohio state EMSI, which was the only program
funded by NSF this year, will be directed by
Professor Patrick Hatcher
of the Department of Chemistry.

Professor Chan
has received the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship.
Professor Platz
was one of 10 recipients of the 2001 Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award of the
American Chemical Society.
The Cope Scholar Award was established by ACS to
recognize and encourage excellence in organic chemistry. Professor Platz received
the award at the National ACS Meeting in San Francisco in March (Article from

Professor Epstein
named Editor-in-Chief of the journal Synthetic Metals, the leading journal on conducting polymers and synthetic metals.
Professor Dalbey is lead author on a paper
