Research Facilities

The department is housed in four buildings that include space for research laboratories, offices and classrooms. The department is well-equipped for modern chemical research, including multinuclear superconducting FT NMR spectrometers and numerous other NMR spectrometers, several EPR spectrometers, an automated and computerized X-ray crystallography laboratory, a linear electron accelerator for pulse radiolysis studies and a large complement of standard IR and UV-visible spectrometers in individual research groups. The Laser Spectroscopy Facility has over 20 state-of-the- art lasers and spectrometer systems and a wide variety of support equipment. Modern separation equipment, including apparatus for GLC, HPLC and electrophoretic separations, is available in various laboratories.

The department employs a staff of technicians, engineers and scientists who support the research programs by maintaining the department's equipment and operating the advanced NMR and advanced spectroscopy laboratories. A major Chemical Instrumentation Center housing MS and NMR spectrometers also serves the department.
