Career Placement Overview
|
In addition to preparing our students scientifically, the department and
the university also provide a variety of training and resources to the students in the
job-search process. As a result, our graduates are able to secure significant positions
in academic, government, and industrial settings upon graduation and have a head start
on their careers.

For those students interested in business or industrial
positions, the Graduate Studies Office produces a book
containing the resumes of MS/PhD students completing degrees and Postdoctoral fellows in chemistry
and makes it available to more than 400 employers in the chemical industry. Recruiters from
30-40 companies visit each year for on-campus interviews. In addition,
every fall we hold an Industrial Associates meeting that brings together
industrial scientists from companies throughout the country. These meetings
allow students to interact with company representatives and learn about new
trends and opportunities in the chemical industry. |
For students interested in careers at colleges or universities,
we offer a Preparing Future Faculty program in collaboration with the
psychology, French, and Italian departments. Monthly seminars provide
students with information on job search techniques, typical job
responsibilities at different colleges and universities, student learning
styles, and teaching methods. Interested students can spend a quarter at one
of the participating universities teaching a class under the direction of a
faculty member. This unique program provides chemistry students at Ohio State
with important information and experience that helps them find and enjoy
academic jobs after graduation.
