You have been assigned a computer account to allow you to fulfill the requirements for a chemistry course in which you are enrolled. There are a number of policies on the use of both the computers and computer labs, which you are required to follow to maintain your account. Abuse of these policies will result in the possible loss of your computer privileges, being brought before Student Judicial Affairs, or the Police (if any vandalism occurs) and such actions will be made at our discretion.
- The security of your account and the labs are of concern for all. Do not share your account or password with anyone!
- Do not open the door to the computer labs for anyone!
- Do not change any default settings, hardware configurations, or attempt to add, remove or copy any software.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the computer labs.
- The computer labs are provided for students to use software not available elsewhere, i.e. Spartan, Gaussian or other computational software. Priority use of the limited computing resources is for Chemistry assignments. If another student has a more valid use of the computer in a lab, i.e. they require specific chemistry related software, relinquish the computer.
- Leave the labs clean!
- The computer lab is a shared work area, treat others with respect, and work quietly!
- Do not remove reference materials from the lab.
- Personal laptops may only be used on OSU’s wireless network, do not connect them to the Chemistry network.
Note:
- The local hard drive is cleaned nightly, it is safest to store your data in your folder on the U:\ drive, or use a flash drive.
- Printing: Chemistry provides only limited printing. When you have exceeded your limit, you will no longer be able to print in these computer labs. Note: color printing is 3 times the charge of black, limit your color printing or you may use up your quota.
In addition to these specific rules, you are also responsible for all OSU and Chemistry Department rules for the use of computers on campus. See:
Policies.
By using your chemistry account, you agree to accept all of these policies.
Note: if you have problems with your account, the computers or lab access, contact Dr. Richard Spinney, CE 160B, rspinney@chemistry.ohio-state.edu.
