1) General News: Absences:
Tim Cogley: MON, 9/21/98 thru FRI, 10/2/98 for training Please make sure you send all requests to support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu and not to individual members of the Computer Support group. 2) Lab News: Security and Access:
Many of you have probably noticed that there are two security cameras mounted in the Graduate Computer Lab 2105 NW. The Lab is now under video surveillance around the clock, and the images are recorded on tape. This, we hope, will strongly reduce the possibilities of theft. Also, the door to the lab is now unlocked during the day (7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.). During this unlocked period, the card reader does not work (red light continously on), and you can just push the door open. You will need your ID card only after 7 p.m. and on weekends and holidays. 3) General News (for faculty): Updates of brochure pages:
We encourage faculty to send us updates to the references on their brochure pages. The brochure pages are available on the web. Please send updates only in ASCII format (no encoded, compressed, binhexed or otherwise treated attachments, please). 4) General News: Yet another Scifinder Beta:
CAS has made yet another beta version available, release 2.0 beta 2. The new beta release supercedes the previous one and can be downloaded from the usual place; go to Internal --> Computer Support --> Scifinder. 5) Unix News: new default version for pine:
Some time ago, we announced a newer version of the email program 'pine'. The default on chemistry, if you just type 'pine', has still been the old version. We will be switching the default to the latest version (4.02A) tonight. If you want to continue to use the old version (3.93), you will have to type the command pine.3.93
