1) (Mostly Unix) Computer Security:
If you work on a PC or Mac, this discussion may not be very important for you.
If you haven't read the Computer Security Policy yet, please do so. If you
run sendmail on your Unix machine, please make sure to let us know. If we
don't hear from you, we have to assume that you don't receive sendmail on
a private machine.
The security filters will be implemented as discussed in the explanation to
the policy on a subnet by subnet basis.
We will start with
subnet 190 on Thursday, April 16.
Subnet 20 will be changed Thursday, April 23, and subnet 33 on Thursday, April
30. If you have any questions about this, please send email to
support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu.
2) Unix News: TeX / LaTeX and tth:
teTeX version 0.4 has been installed on chemistry and is available for all
Sun Solaris machines in the Department. We are planning to make this new
version available for all AIX machines as well.
tth is a (La)TeX-to-html converter. tth version 1.45 is now available on all
Solaris, AIX and IRIX machines that mount the central /usr/common and
/usr/global filesystems. Documentation on tth is available through the
Computer Support web page:

3) Barb's Corner: Scheduled Staff Computer Training Sessions:
(Watch for details/preregistration via email; all are welcome)
Friday, April 10, 1998 (Computer Lab, 2105NW):
Using Message Filtering with Eudora Pro
* Creating/using message filters
* Creating/using Stationery files
* Changing message queueing
Details: By user request, the next training session will be a tutorial
about "Using Message filtering with Eudora". With message filtering, one
can set up Eudora to do certain tasks automatically, such as:
* move certain incoming msgs. to specified mailboxes/folders
* tag certain incoming msgs. w/color-coded labels
* reply to certain requests with "canned" responses (Stationery files
in Eudora's parlance)
I would also like to show users how to create/use Stationery files (in
combination with message filtering or otherwise), and how to change
message queueing, so they can send any of their outgoing email messages
at a specified time/date.
