It is critical that up-to-date antivirus software is installed,
properly configured, and enabled on your computer. OSU site-licensed
anti-virus software available to OSU faculty, staff, and students
includes: VirusScan v.8.0 for Windows NT4/2000/XP, Virex v.6.2 for
Mac Classic, and v.7.7 for Mac OS X. If you are using Windows
95/98/Me/NT 4 we highly recommend updating to windows 2000/XP due to
a number of security reasons, including lack of anti-virus software support.
Some individuals may choose to purchase, install &
configure other antivirus software (e.g., Symantec/Norton Antivirus)
for their systems. They are then responsible for making sure that
software is correctly installed, configured and updated regularly.
It is beyond the scope of this document to discuss how to implement
these other antivirus packages.
For general information about VirusScan or Virex software, to
download the software, and view some installation notes, please check
the "Software to Go" website. Additional specific configuration
suggestions will be given later in this FAQ. You can also download
virus definition files from the Software Downloads
site (or from Network Associates).
Windows users, to download software, go to:

Macintosh users, to download software, go to:

Mac users: If you're running Mac OS X, you need Virex 7.7. If you're running Mac OS 7.5.5 or later (including Mac OS 8.x and 9.x),
you need Virex 6.2.
