Virex 7.7 for Mac OS X users

Virex 6.1 or earlier will not run under Mac OS X. Virex 7.7 must be used.
- Download/Install Virex 7.7
(according to instructions from OIT's Software-to-Go website at http://osusls.osu.edu).
- Download/Install current virus definition files
(also per instructions from OIT's Software-to-Go website).
- NOTE: Virex 7.0 provides no way to perform automatic
updates/upgrades!
Therefore it is critical for users to manually update Virex 7.0 on a
regular basis:
- To install software, user should be logged onto Mac OS X system
as user with Admin privileges
- Download/install updates for Virex 7.7 at least once a month.
Updates may be obtained from OIT's Software-to-Go site. Or, get the
updates directly from Network Associates as follows:
- Download the compressed file from the site,
ftp://ftp.nai.com/virusdefs/mac/virex7/. It's in Gnu Zip archive
format.
- Place the package on your desktop.
- Double-click on the package.
- A dialog box appears, stating "You need an Administrator password
to install the software". Click on the lock icon and enter
appropriate administrator name and password, then click on
"OK".
- A McAfee Updater Installer dialog box appears; click on "Continue".
- Select a destination volume to install the update on. (Click on
the icon for the desired volume, then click on "Continue").
- In the next dialog box, click on "Install"
- After the Virex update is installed, a final dialog box appears,
stating "The software was successfully installed". Click on "Close".
