blank What happened to the Memo System?

The Memo System has been removed from the Chemistry web server, so you will not be able to locate these pages on our web site. Many of the Memo Script pages had become out-of-date, and with the move to the new apache web server, the language in which the scripts were created is no longer supported. Other methods exist to reproduce the functionality offered by the Memo System. Your email program has the same capabilities as the Memo System with the added benefit of being able to save the messages you sent.

For instance, if you were using the Memo System to send email to certain groups of people, you might be able to find the email list addresses by going to one of the following links:

  • List All Email Aliases
To determine who is on a given list, you can access a page which lists all of the aliases and lists maintained on the chemistry E-mail server and offers each as a link. If you follow the link above, you will see the recipients of the alias or list.

This method is useful if you want to browse through the names of all mailing lists and aliases.

  • Inquire Email Alias to be expanded
Another method allows you to enter an arbitrary name, and the script will either expand that name (list or alias), or let you know that such a mailing address doesn't exist on the chemistry server.

This method is useful if you want to find out if a particular name or address that you have for somebody is valid, and if so, who the potential recipient is.

Once you have the email list name, open up your email program and type in the name, followed by @chemistry.ohio-state.edu
If you are trying to send email to support (Chemistry Computer Support), you would type support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu in the "To:" field of the message.
