There are 4 buttons on the mouse. On the top, you'll find left and right buttons, and in the center of the top, the scroll wheel (which you can use for quick and precise scrolling up and down in an open window) serves as another button when clicked.

On the left side of the mouse, you'll find the 4th button.

Use of the mouse's programmed buttons is meant to increase users' productivity.

Function of the mouse buttons is given in the table below:

Button	Function	Explanation
Left button (top)	Click	Selects an item.
Middle button/scroll wheel (top)	Double-Click	Opens a drive or folder; runs an application; opens a document associated with a given application.
Right button (top)	Ctrl-Click	Reveals a context-sensitive menu of options (equivalent to a right-click in Windows 95/98/NT).
Side button (left side of mouse)	Click Lock	Equivalent to continuous depression of click button; useful in conjunction with single or multiple item selection and drag-and-drop/copy operations.
