When you're running Eudora in a typical configuration, you are connected to a
remote computer, the Chemistry Windows server (where your U: drive lives that
contains, amongst other things, your Eudora mailboxes/messages,
individualized settings, addressbook [nickname] entries, etc.). You run the
main executable from your local machine, but using the settings, etc. that
are stored on the U: drive.
If the system gives you the message
There is another instance of Eudora running on a remote computer
- select "Exit this instance of Eudora".
- After you are sure Eudora is not running on your local machine,
go to your U: drive, and inside the eudora folder look for a file named OWNER.LOK.
- Delete the OWNER.LOK file.
Now you should be able to start up Eudora again without getting
the error message.
