As announced in previous issues of CompNews, Chemistry operates a
DHCP server & is promoting the use of DHCP (dynamic host
configuration protocol) in lieu of static IP-addresses for most
networked Departmental computers (servers excepted).
So, how do you configure your computer to use DHCP, allowing your
computer to accept IP addresses dynamically? Assuming in all cases
that your computer has an appropriate network adapter and TCP/IP
protocol already installed, follow these instructions:
DHCP Setup for Windows 95/98 or ME
DHCP Setup for Windows NT
DHCP Setup for Windows 2000
DHCP Setup Macintosh OS
If you setup your PC to use DHCP, you can still use Windows file sharing; see
Notes about NetBIOS
