There are helpful notes at the http://www.library.wisc.edu:4001 location for Windows and Mac installations of the Beilstein Client software, as well as troubleshooting notes, and information about new features in version 5.0.

- Basic procedure:

  1. Download software files (which may be archived/compressed) to a temporary folder on your harddrive.

  2. Expand archived/compressed software files as necessary.

For your convenience, there are already-expanded versions of the software files, bc2000xf-winset.exe (Windows), and bc2000xf-macinst.hqx (Mac) on the "Software" volume of the Windows file server, in the following locations:

    Windows:
    \\Windows\Software\Ibm\Win95-98\Beilstein\Win-ver 5.0\Expanded bc50 software

    Mac:
    \\Windows\Software\Mac\Beilstein\Mac version 5.0\Expanded bc50 software

  3. Uninstall previous versions of Beilstein Commander before proceeding.

  4. Then, install & configure the Beilstein client software (Windows: run the setup.exe item contained within the folder marked "bc2000xf-set"; Mac: run the BC2000 Installer W item). Detailed instructions for Windows & Mac installations found in the next sections of this FAQ.

  5. You're done; throw away any files you downloaded &/or expanded into temporary folders on your harddrive.
