Subject: central servers and networking equipment on UPS
 
 As of mid-July, the central servers ("chemistry" Unix server, "chem-nt
 Windows-NT server) are on Uninterruptible Power Supplies. From now on,
 we don't have to worry about momentary electrical outages that sometimes
 occur during thunderstorms. The UPS units have sufficient capacity to sustain
 the CPUs and all disk and tape devices for at least 30 min. 
 
 Also on UPS units is the central network equipment in Celeste and Newman & 
 Wolfrom (excluding the public Computer Lab 2105 NW).
