Infrared and Raman spectra can often provide complimentary chemical information about substances.  A microscope equipped with both an IR and a Raman spectrometer can provide a wealth of complementary chemical information.  This combined Infrared - Raman Microprobe provides IR and Raman spectra from the same small spot, as well as spectral mapping over the same areas.

Heating and cooling stages from Linkam <www.linkam.co.uk> will permit temperature and atmospheric control from 100K to 1500C.

Installed in December 2007

The photo at the left shows the new instrument just after the initial part of the installation was finished

During the evaluation phase, Dr. John Spirig '07 (Dutta group) tested the instrument in a marathon 30 hour session.  The results, plus some more measurements on other instruments, produced 2 publications.  <Photo> <Figure from paper>

The manufacturer's brochure shows examples of the complementary spectra.  [ Brochure PDF ]
